Nor would i suggest they are effective at this at all. This officer however wasnt in an unmarked car to be sneaky (i dont think) he's simply a detective, which almost all drive unmarked cars.
We can argue till we're blue in the face about the merit of ticketing a victimless crime like speeding all day, but i feel that the merit of an undercover/detective isnt much different than a regular cop if your perspective is that speeding shouldnt be illegal in the first place (as i am guessing you believe).
TBH there isnt much evidence that cops in general are good at curbing speeding in any area other than their line of sight. The signs that tell you your speed, lower speed limits, signs on corners giving suggestions of the speed you should take them at, etc all suck at stopping people from speeding.
But u posted its 100 to 1. That would mean 10 cops got killed last year. I believe u meant 10:1.
No, I do not mean 10:1. The bold are the only ones which are conceivably due to direct cause by the criminal.

...so 25 cops killed by criminals this year, which is 2/3 done, so let's say the rate will amount to 40ish over the year. Now contrast that with the rough 1100 people killed by police a year. Sure, it isn't 100:1, but 27:1 isn't a pretty stat.
