Nothing would change.

He'd have someone who loves him, unlike a majority of the users of this section.

Nothing could make me stop loving my son. The reason I would cry is because of all the bigots he would have to deal with that will try to make his life hell and a system that treats him like a second-class citizen, even going so far as to telling him that his love is inferior than those that it (the state) chooses as winners.

9 times out of 10, you will at least have a strong suspicion your child is gay before they tell you unless you're completely disconnected with them.
My parents asked me when I was 13 or 14 before I came out, and were supportive.

Pretty much. People tend to know how it will go down on both sides before it happens. Its rarely a secret. I know a friend who got disowned and kicked out and taken in by another family. He knew it would happen, he did it anyone. When my brother came out, I said 'duh', got anything new?

if thats the case then you dont deserve to had kids.

it was a joke about my discomfort with gays despite believing in tolerance for them - i'd be more worried about the treatment he'd get from my family than society itself

the likely scenario is that i'd have to cut myself off from my parents and extended family members as i know they would not be able to accept it in order to protect my son

my brother tends to be more understanding about these matters so he'd probably be accepting of it

Pretty much. The irony of all this - the topic is aimed at males, not females. For some reason gay females are accepted in todays society while gay males are cast aside like some sort or freak. Gay is gay, and human is human, and everyone essentially wants the same things out of life.

Who am I to decide how my son/daughter lives their life, who they choose to love, or how they carry out their relationships. As a parent, the only thing you should be is supportive.

Hells Angels actually do a lot for the community.

Sure they are violent as hell, but do more than our politicians here in Florida.

They do this every year.

Guys I think the thread was a theoretical "if your son came home and you didn't know he was gay..." thread.

Yeah some of my best friends are bikers, leonard, deano and billy are rebs, chris and mick are hells angels, my country is getting really dirty trying to clamp down on motor cycle clubs at the moment, declaring them crime syndicates, banning them from wearing colors etc.
