I lived on Long Island in 2001. I remember hearing about it at lunch time, around 11:00. Pretty fucking late, the people at my middle school kept it quiet from most of us. Anyway, my classmates weren't sure whether or no the Empire State or the Twin Towers were hit. After lunch we went to class and the teachers told the students they'd go home.
I remember feeling a little sick that day, so I went to the school nurse. They had the radio on in the nurses office. Don't really remember what was said, I just wanted my parents to get me, to be honest I felt nervous. Now, I had bad stomach problems as a kid, it always hurt and I'm pretty sure I was suffering from IBS or some bullshit like that. Worse yet, my stomach would hurt if I felt nervous. For example, when I was a kid I'd get a stomach ache while playing Resident Evil 2, because the premise of the game made me nervous of a what if scenario in reality. So, my stomach being like it was, I had to go to the bathroom for some odd reason. So, they had to hold up my bus while I took a dump, pretty embarrassing stuff.
Later on I went to the doctor with my dad, allergy tests. The doctor's office had a television turned on to the news channel. Some woman asked to change the channel because she didn't want her kids to see. My dad bitched about that the entire time home, saying people shouldn't hide under the bed and cover their eyes when shit goes down. My sister said she could see the smoke from the second floor of Baldwin High School.
The event turned me into a neo-conservative until I graduated from High School. On 9/12 everyone on the block went outside at some hour and had a candle lit whatever it's called. There was a larger one that Friday outside of the Catholic Church.
So, like any New York 12 year old, I got a hooker checked into a motel room and started free-basing.
