Technically true. I'll rephrase it.
I shouldn't have to go out of my way/not do something a rational person would ordinarily choose to do (i.e. go to a restaurant, bar, take public transportation, ...) just so I can avoid the odor or cigarettes.
By smoking, you're infringing on my rights to only somewhat toxic air, eyes and lungs that don't burn when I'm in public ...

Also, on a side note, I'd be curious to know how many of the studies downplaying the risks associated with second hand smoke were funded either by someone who profits from the tobacco industry or who themselves is an avid smoker.

No matter how many ways you try to rephrase it, it boils down to one simple fact: People who don't WANT to deal with cigarette smoke are FORCING people who do smoke to accommodate them. No matter how many ways you try to frame this as a matter of rights, you will lose because this is the premise it boils down to. Cigarette smoking is a legal activity, and people with property rights and a freedom of association who wish to allow said legal activity are being forced to disallow it by people whose rights ARE NOT being infringed.

In the other thread about smoking, I linked to a site that summarized the relative risk (RR) of EVERY major smoking study up through 2006.

Before it was banned here? All of them allowed smoking at the entrances/exits. One even allowed it in the store.

At the exits??? Outside??? Cry.

every single one in China...
Seriously, people smoke in elevators, metro system, in office buildings...
I've seen people smoking while pumping gas

We're not in China, irrelevant.

I have to walk through them to to in and out of the store, effectively screwing up the rest of my day.

Correct.

Um, 25 feet from the entrance is too close? Hike your skirt up Sally.

It wasn't 25 feet from the entrance. It was directly on the entrance.

Blocking the entrance is against fire codes.

Why should my newborn baby have to live at home for the first year of his life?
I can not take him outside because I am terrified that he would experience SIDS as a result of second hand smoke. If i walk in the street and a smoker walks by him, the sidestream secondhand smoke could poison my child and kill him.

So I have to leave my 4 month old child at home alone while getting food for him at the store? or would you rather his small organs be suffocated by cigarette smoke which contain over 4000 chemicals in it?

SIDS experts recommend to keep your child in a complete smoke free environment.

Is this possible while commuting to do chores?

I'm unsure of my local fire code but I don't think I've ever seen people removed from the exit of a building if they were just hanging around it. I'll have to look into that.

What Causes SIDS?
While there are still no adequate medical explanations for SIDS deaths, current theories include: (1) stress in a normal baby, caused by infection or other factors; (2) a birth defect; (3) failure to develop; and/or (4) a critical period when all babies are especially vulnerable, such as a time of rapid growth.
Many new studies have been launched to learn how and why SIDS occurs. Scientists are exploring the development and function of the nervous system, the brain, the heart, breathing and sleep patterns, body chemical balances, autopsy findings, and environmental factors. It is likely that SIDS, like many other medical disorders, will eventually have more than one explanation.
