The RFK Jr. - Trump alignment makes sense when you think about it as establishment vs anti-establishment, institutionalist vs anti-institutionalist, expertise vs opposition to expertise, etc. I mean Michael Malice is a great example... he supports dissolving the United States into separate countries.

It doesn't really matter that RFK Jr and Trump have different views on tax rates, abortion, health care systems, etc. It doesn't matter that Trump cut taxes on the rich, cut regulations, and had a hawkish foreign policy. What matters is that they both oppose and/or hate the same people, or groups of people. What matters is that they both believe a lot of kooky shit, and they want to disrupt and divide, and that appeals to a certain segment of voters who identify more with being anti-establishment than any principled ideology.

Kinda rich coming from you of all people, you who claims to be a "principled conservative", yet unironically used "he's gonna staff his administration with folks from the Heritage Foundation" as evidence for how much of a threat to democracy a second Trump term would be. Just like you would be willing to enable absolutely any arbitrary lefty policy if only it keeps Trump away from power.

Other than that, I actually agree with you, though. RFK is a loon, and being anti-establishment and spiteful against the Democrats are the only things him and Trump have in common.

Nicole Shanahan too is a breathe of sanity in the unhinged political discourse

That woman is a complete lunatic. Also, from a political or ideological point of view, I wouldn't really trust a woman who had literally been married to one of the Google founders.

I admittedly don't know a whole lot about her, except her being a competent woman in tech who was married to Sergey Brin, I get the "vibe" that she cares about the health of the younger generation, but also know she's still a lefty.

I don't claim to be a principled conservative, lol. I'm a center-right moderate who doesn't have the luxury of having sane, center-right Republicans to vote for, so I choose Democrats over the weirdo personality cult.

Positions matter to me though. I'm glad Kamala has pivoted more to the center, not just because it's good politically, but it's better policy.

Maybe, but even then... a center-right figure shouldn't consider staffing from the ranks of the Heritage Foundation to be much of an issue, let alone 'radical' or a threat to democracy.

For me it's the general whining about "disrupt and divide" from a party that has demonized half the country for 15 years.

Trump's running on deporting millions of people and handing over the staffing of his government to the Heritage Foundation. His most passionate position the last number of days is that he has very large crowd sizes and Kamala's are either small or AI generated. Is that substantive policy? No... it's not. It's inane ramblings from an angry old man.

My point in that post wasn't to criticize the Heritage Foundation, it was basically saying "deporting illegals and handing the transition to the Heritage Foundation" isn't much of a policy platform.

But on the subject of the Heritage Foundation, it's not the same institution it was 2-3 decades ago. It's leader has intentionally moved it to be an extension of Trumpism. So if I were a principled conservative, it would make sense to criticize them.

Side point - I don't think we have any principled conservatives on this forum. Not really a critique, just a statement of fact.

Every time the Harris/Walz ticket talks about loving America, taking care of our neighbors, and bringing together people who think differently, I want you to remind us how Romney was treated 12 years ago.
