Indeed you should hear those people's side of story. Hearing people's story does not mean they are automatically absolved of any wrongdoing. Rather it's one of the basic principles of having due process. You don't assign guilt to someone without letting him speak first.

Even in the case of Pol-Pot, regardless of how many people you think he had killed, you should still let him speak, and preferably in a court. I know it's hard for you to grasp but in the West we have this funny habit of letting people defend themselves in an accusation.
