Okay, I didn't follow that discussion... IF he really said that, it's bullshit. However, I also have difficulties accepting the idea that we should prefer the person with outright lower merit if only he/she has come from substantially "further down". Not just because it dilutes the meritocratic principle, but also because it runs the risk of lowering the overall performance level of society.
The best solution, imho, is for society to invest enough in schools and social programs as well as opportunity programs that anyone bright, no matter from where he starts, has a realistic chance at climbing far up the social ladder if only he works hard enough and has the talent. That a ghetto kid with addict parents won't be able to move all the way up into the highest echelons of high society within one (or even two) generations is imho acceptable, just like it is acceptable that avage folks from a privileged background might edge out slightly above-average folks from an underprivileged background.
we live in the digital age, there has never been more opportunity in the history of our race
if you are born in yemen or an orphan from congo okay, you are kinda screwed, but aside from that i cant hear these social ladder discussions anymore
you just need a device connected to the internet to access basically the whole wisdom of humankind
and if you live in a first world country you can change your social status faster than ever
i am still waiting for an argument why a young, physically able person cant make a solid living
there are plenty of well paid jobs and opportunities, you basically just need to finish high school, not be a retard and apply yourself
of course there are related discussions with migration, cost of living, inflation etc, but there is no excuse to not at least do alright for yourself
a while ago i saw a screenshot of a job offer, 85k starting salary, all costs for moving covered, 10k bonus if you stay for 2 or 3 years
requirements? two arms, two legs and a high school diploma
granted, it was north or south dakota railways or something like that, but why arent people all over this?
instead they struggle to find workers and the dipshits keep whining about how unfair everything is lmao
