Bunch of weak-minded people. No one wants to do what's hard and has little immediate reward.

I agree. The sugar industry is doing a tremendous amount of damage to the US (as well as other western countries, UK, Ireland, etc).

It's pretty fucked up that you could get a pack of Twinkies or other processed sugar for like 1-2 bucks which pack a few thousand calories while a pack of apples or other fruits with much smaller servings are 2x or 3x in price.

Wouldn't it be cool if we raised the prices on the processed sugar goods by 2x by taxing them and then use all of those funds to subsidize healthy foods like fruits and vegetables? I'm not sure why more effort is not being put into fine tuning these type of things.

The sugar lobby and farming lobby are the same lobby. crack down on sugar and you're directly attacking "american farmers". hopefully we're at or near the tipping point where those "farmers" are finally recognized for what they are, massive corporations not actual small family farms.

Why can't we incentivize them as a society to make fruits and vegetables more affordable through subsidy derived from taxing the garbage? To me it's a win win for all.

The Government should certainly subsidize being healthy and strong

A good idea would be to have a monthly check up, where you are assessed by a doctor on your health and fitness level. Then be paid accordingly each month - be taxed more if you are unhealthier than the last visit, or receive a cheque if you're healthier than the last visit. This incentive to better yourself and disincentive to weaken yourself would do wonders for society

When the adults in the room are ready to admit Sugar is a drug and needs to be regulated.

Then I think we'll see some weight loss.

It's not. It's part of living in a modern capitalistic society with fine tuning. There is no pure capitalism on earth. Only retards on both sides of the isle think the purest, most absolutist form of an economic system is best, when in reality it's a spectrum and the 20th century has shown us that leaning towards capitalism with some safety nets and good laws is optimal.
