Marriage is not necessary but the relationship must be committed and both partners have to be onboard.

agreed. also to note: introducing your children to Diablo 2 and Ladder Slasher, and engaging in PvP, can enhance the family dynamic and marriage tenfold. however, it's crucial that both partners are committed and to participate and that gaming doesn't become a source of tension in the relationship.

Not a strawman!

seriously, why dont we just ban conservatives from getting abortions and getting divorced?

I am saying that we shouldn't just blame conservatives. If they want to ban something, we should at least ask them why they want to do that. These things they want to ban, such as abortion and no-fault divorce, are both very bad things. I honestly can see why they would want to ban them.

There is nothing inherently wrong with no fault divorce. Sometimes, people made a mistake when they were young. Or they were a genuinly great fit for one another decades ago, but then grew apart as they saw their priorities and outlook on life diverge over the years. There is neither a moral argument to make, nor is it for the better of society at-large, if people are being trapped in toxic or detrimental relationships which make them unhappy.

What is a problem, however, is when the rules surrounding alimony, custody and child support can easily ruin a man if it comes to a divoce. The balance of power in relationships is shifted in an unhealthy way when the female side can threaten to leave her husband and be financially rewarded for it while he has to fear ruin or at least significant social decline.

When children are involved it becomes a moral issue.

Yes.

I don't care if two people want to split up. However, when there are children involved, I can really see why no-fault divorce is bad. Children need both parents. We are always talking about children's needs but we don't try and make sure they have an intact family to grow up in.

And who is supposed to enforce this?

I've heard this referred to as divorce rape.

I'm not advocating for divorcing at the first signs of relationship trouble, but if the parents genuinely tried to sort out their differences and simply couldn't despite their best efforts, then the children will not have an intact family to grow up in if the parents stay together.

Imho, what children need the most is a caring, loving social environment, not the formal, perfunctory presence of both parents. Children can lack a caring, loving environment even if they have married parents, and on the flip side, it's far from impossible to find such an environment in households with single parents, step-parents or even other parenting arrangements (communes, tribes).

I cant fathom why someone would want to or take the risk of having kids outside of a committed relationship but im feeling I may be behind the times on this topic.

How would our resident pardians feel about having children outside of a committed relationship?

Is the question supposed to be kids out of wedlock or kids outside of a committed relationship? Because they are two different questions.

Me and my partner have been together 16 years, unmarried, almost twice as long as the national average length of marriage and we've just had our first child. Yet if you listen to jebus lovers, we've done it wrong
