yep. I hope Starmer gets a chance at running the country, as Blair was the last good prime minister we had. Back in 2007 we had one of the highest GDP per capita in the world, were amongst the top in education rankings, had an increasing life expectancy, better social mobility, etc. The UK is now lagging in all of those metrics
Blair's policies are the main culprit for Brexit, the triumph of neoliberalism and for many working-class folks turning their backs on Labour. He was, to the best of my understanding, also one of the main drivers for this idea of going all-in on services, financial services in particular, as the backbone of the UK economy while neglecting the producing sector and everything else. Of course these policies looked good until 2007 - that's the point in time when this exact economic model came crashing down during the financial crisis. The seeds for the UK being outpaced during the 2010s were already sown during Blair's tenure.
Your statement is a bit like someone saying "Brezhnev was the last good General Secretary of the Soviet Union. Back in 1982, they could still compete with the West, still had a very high GDP per capita, great in education rankings, increasing life expectancy, etc. Look where Gorbachev's policies led the country." My point is that the UK was (imho) already set on a course toward creeping decline during the Blair years. Yes, 12+ years of Tory rule only made matters worse, and they deserve to get blasted for it - but Blair and New Labour must imho share the blame.
