Facebook and Twitter are now censoring and deleting Donald Trump's posts that accurately said that children are mostly immune to covid-19. They have taken it upon themselves to embrace science denialism and censor the president when he presents the scientific facts.
This has been demonstrated so many times now and researched so thoroughly and yet facebook/twitter are actually trying to censor the public debate over school policy by denying the science we know.

A kid got covid 19 in georgia on day one of schools opening. This is obviously bullshit and only his witch doctors are saying stupid things like this.

Literally incompetent. How douchy to put kids at risk for political points.

14-17 is at a far higher risk than say 1-10, including 17 year olds skews that greatly. Its why the debate should be different over reopening middle school/less, vs high school/college
the IFR for pre-teen children is so low you can best estimate it as ~0%, its been estimated anywhere from 0.00001% to 0.001% in studies I've seen, but the numbers simply aren't meaningful for comparison beyond saying its insignificant compared to both normal seasonal diseases and adult covid-19.

It is also putting the future of our children at risk if we dont find a way to send them back to school for the 12-18 months it will realistically take at a minimum until a vaccine becomes available. And not only that, remote classes and isolation from peers will reinforce existing inequalities like crazy.
When it comes to reopening schools, it is the logical thing to take slightly higher risks than with, e.g., bars or gyms. There's simply a ton at stake.

And like Goom correctly pointed out, the risk for preteens is virtually nonexistent, and they are also not the big spreaders some were fearing. Since children can be expected to cope with online/remote learning the better the older they are, I would say we should at least reopen elementary and middle school. The only question up for debate imho is if we should keep high schools closed or try to reopen them too.

An anecdote is not the basis for public policy. The Democratic Party is anti-science on this issue. One, because deep-throating teacher unions has become a favorite pastime. Two, because Drumpf must be made to look bad on every issue, no matter whether he bats .700 or .100.

Three, any return to normalcy of any kind is negative for their electoral prospects in November.
