I really wonder if Hamas was motivated by the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange here, did they think since they got ridiculous value out of that exchange that the same would work here?

Doubtful

This is Iran upset with Saudi and Hamas losing leverage over Palestine

yeah Iran definitely supports Hamas, no doubting that. Israel released the current leader of Hamas Yahya Sinwar they had in prison and gave away +1000 prisoners for 1 israeli soldier, this absolutely does motivate the use of hostages for Hamas in the future.

some good ideas, some not so great and i will admit that israel declaring their state unilaterally maybe was not the greatest idea

thanks for mentioning the mandate btw, arabs attacked and murdered jewish settlers all the way back to the 1920s

even more proof for the nonsense palestinian narrative

My interpretation of the history, is that there definitely is a geographical area referred to as Palestine to include people of a shared cultural and ethnic identity--with history, war, and Israel's expansion beyond The Green Line resulting in the Palestinian-inhabited Gaza Strip and The West Bank. Many, but not all, countries also recognize Palestine's existence. To suggest that "There has never been a Palestine" is a confusing argument to me. If people instead offered that the way in which Palestine came into existence is illegitimate, then I could at least understand that argument, as that doesn't detract from the reality that there is a Palestinian region.

I am not denying that, but I don't think Jews can say, "our ancestors used to live here" and then start pushing current inhabitants out. It's just a recipe for conflict.

I really think the true fault lies with the Western powers that decided to create a Jewish homeland in that region. They should have gave them a place in say, Africa, that was relatively un-inhabited. It's probably better too, Africa is rich in minerals and other resources. Better than a dry, arid land in the Middle East.

i would agree with this, as i said you can spin that wheel for eternity until the city of rome wants spain back

same with the location, but clearly the jews wanted to go there and not some dirt in africa

even when a place could have been better in many aspects

i mean after these people suffered the worst genocide in history nobody was saying no to them

The hostages are or will be dead I don’t think hostage taking was the primary motivation

They knew an attack with Netanyahu at helm and war hawk on national security counsel would result in chaos ruining the peace treaty , the treaty which would severely undermine Hamas and Iran in Palestine. I think it’s as simple as this

What doesn’t add up to me is, Mossad is one of the top intel agencies in the world. They have their tentacles in Hamas, Iran, pretty much of their enemies, how didn’t they see this?

Something large scale like this would have had a fair amount of chatter.

This could be used as a justification for Israel to really drop the hammer on the Palestinians

In case it hasn't already been covered over the last 24 pages, there's intel that Egypt tried to warn Israel 10 days prior.

So.....Israel deliberately allowed this attack so that they could have a pretext to genocide the Palestinians?

Very conspiracy-theorist like but definitely possible.

Not surprised to see the people who just spent 2 years giving a standing ovation to nazis turning out in the streets of major us, canadian and european cities to wave swastikas and cheer for dead jews

Ya know, I had pretty low expectations for the 2020s as a decade but the fact that my very baseline political belief of "I don't support Nazis" wound up being controversial, kind of surprises me to this day

yet here you are defending a regime that is treating its neighbors just like the Nazis treated the Jews, only this time its the Jews committing atrocities. you have no shame
