This story was unsettling as she seemed rather easy to save when she was abandoned, curious on the investigation.

He had a moral obligation that he failed to meet in a few regards. As for the guide role, unless she was a paying customer or totally inexperienced (she had decent amount), I wouldn't consider him a guide in their roles during the context of this trip.

As for risks, this one seems straight forward, but people don't understand risks in general. Have skippered on sailboats and mind blowing the lack of common sense people have got. Or how easily they will trust an absolute stranger with their life.

I do understand the questioning his actions, they were either vastley unprepared or potentially something nefarious was happening. You don't leave a person on a face of a mountain with no protection from the elements. When the wind is howling here across the Tundra and Its incredibly difficult to pitch a tent, I don't say, well you're dead, I take my shovel and snow knife and build a snow wall. So there is that, but yes, its the guide accountability part I am interested in. Will I have to start handing out waivers to family and friends to sign before we go out each time.

When she was left, was she just 'exhausted' or actually hurt or in a medical state like hypothermic? That part doesn't seem clear to me. This why I only do high adventure with couple trusted dudes. Only cushy state parks for family.

It's tax season, so the Social Security program is on the mind. Below is AI summary from recent surveys.

The big question I have with the Social Security as I pay in and won't take out for a few decades.

Will it be there when I retire?

Will the benefit be cut more than 20%?

If not, or cut more than 20%, how does US government reconcile labor theft in relation to 13th/14th amendment?

On one hand cutting it leads to some type of short lived humanitarian crisis.

On the other hand, forcing Americans to pay into something with no payout is a violation of the social contract and moreso morally wrong (wage theft).

What does ParD think Social Security will look like when we all gray beards? I think if my boss cuts my pay and benefits by more than 20%, then he effectively canceled my ass without the termination notice.

----

Growing concerns over the long-term solvency of Social Security, with 74% of Americans worried it will run out in their lifetime, have fueled interest in alternative, privatized systems. While many express distrust in the system's management, with 30% doubting it will exist for them, current law generally does not allow workers

A 2025 survey from the Cato Institute revealed that 62% of Americans feel Congress has broken promises regarding the program, and 30% do not believe it will be available for them when they retire.

The official federal report, summarized by the Bipartisan Policy Center, confirms that the retirement trust fund is projected to be depleted by 2033, leading to an automatic 23% benefit cut unless Congress acts.

It only got as low as -8c, -20 with windchill. Gotta be seriously underprepared to die at that temp. 5lb of gear could have kept her alive indefinitely… my guess is two very dumb people.

Wind break, wool blanket, and a candle, she would be alive.
