I'm pretty sure that the average women can more safely be out and about alone at night in Budapest than in Frankfurt or Paris. How many beheadings were there in Hungary in recent years, how many young women in Hungary were massacred by their own father or brothers for living a Western lifestyle, how many "incidents" with machetes were there in Hungarian trains or city centers?

I won't deny that life is probably better in Berlin than Budapest if you're gay or trans, but the range of persons for whom the Hungarian model is more beneficial than the Western European one is far larger than just straight white conservative males.

exactly. it's shocking how many people don't get that simple concept. the likes of putin, orban, kim... they don't even HAVE to outright cheat in their elections. they might still do that, but it's perfectly imaginable that they could all get solid "majorities" without interfering with the voting process itself.

to conclude from that, however, that the elections were therefore "fair" and "democratic", is absolutely idiotic. while hungary's current media monopoly and state propaganda isn't quite as old as russia's for example or as strict and all-encompassing as china's or north korea's, it's still clearly un-democratic, and concerningly uniform, certainly for an EU member.

i just wish orban would finally make true on his "threats" of leaving the union - but we all know that he's just performing an act for his stupid supporters (domestic and international) and that hungary would be significantly worse off without the billions they receive from the free democracies they constantly talk shit about. without EU money and market protections, hungary would be in for a real shocking economic surprise, and orban would lose his power faster than he can gather his corrupt wealth and flee the country...

In France we have regulations on campaigns budgets and time allocated on TV, radio, and alot of checks against corruption.
Hugary is rotten. Btw Orban is a real threat. Right wing only see here a "sign of strength", sounds like they love to end up as cannon food. I wish them the best.

My favorite episode was still one of Merkel's minions giving an impassioned speech in parliament defending his mistresses most controversial policies before being appointed Justice of the German Supreme Court the next day, followed by German mainstream politicians and media blasting Poland's lack of an independent judiciary a few weeks later.
