Numbers aren’t that impressive, in terms of deaths

Yeah it’s contagious, it’s coronavirus, it’s always contagious

CNBC article talking about person to person spread...ok it’s literally always been respiratory droplets/person to person

This is fear mongering

For perspective on the Coronavirus:

In the US, since October 2019, the flu has caused:
-19,000,000 – 26,000,000 illnesses
-180,000 – 310,000 hospitalizations
-10,000 – 25,000 deaths

My point is the average American should not be worried about the Coronavirus any more right now than the do the influenza virus. Its current domestic prevalence outweighs the increased morbidity and mortality of this strain of coronavirus for Amercicans. The potential global economic effects of the Coronavirus are another matter.

Why does it matter if they're doctors? Those posts are from February 2nd, before we had any real information on this novel virus.

yeah we will never get to that number, but to be fair they were just going off mortality rates from the rest of the world. the quality our health care (despite being financially ruining which is a different conversation) is most certainly superior

I personally didn't start taking it seriously until late feb or near that timeframe. thats when I canceled some flights I had for April. once Italy numbers came out and they were shutting down half the country, is around when I started respecting it

Better understanding of how coronaviruses spread, more ITK circles, etc...I can't believe you've asked me that.

It was spreading rapidly in other countries in early Feb, look at some of the early posts - many were very concerned. Governments and medical officials knew it was going to be really bad from January.

what countries was it really rapidly spreading in during early February lol

and yeah even in February people were surprised it is contagious, the very post you highlighted I said it isn't surprising that it's contagious. the mortality/hospitalization rate are the numbers that matters. traditional corona virus effects millions every year because of how contagious it is. were country mortality rates bad in February?

Here you go, is that 10 countries or 11 on 1st/2nd Feb? That doesn't include cases from late Jan in UK, Russia, Finland and possibly more.

The number of deaths in Hubei outside Wuhan reached 101. (Feb 3rd)

So no, there weren't widespread deaths yet.
