date for US to have more cases daily than rest of world combined..
7-15 in my head
Nah. The situation is also escalating badly in India, Mexico, South Africa and most of South America. The rest of the world currently stands at around 130k cases per day, will prolly be at 200k or so in two weeks. I dont think that the U.S. will ever get that high.
Sad sidenote: it seems that the early and strict lockdowns imposed in South Africa, Colombia and India were a big mistake. Needlessly harmed their economy, depleted the state finances and since these countries didnt have the resources to keep it going long enough before people start literally starving, they recently had to reopen despite surging case numbers. The shutdown in India even spurred the largest wave of internal migration (from the cities to the villages) in decades, presumably helping the virus spread.
Now, the virus will sweep across these countries just like it would have without the lockdown. These countries tried to do the right thing and emulate the measures recommended by the WHO and taken in most of the industrialized world. I assumed right from the start that it would be in vain, that countries need measures attuned to their specific social and economic conditions.
