Personally if was the voter it's relevant, because that's what should be the measuring stick of a party is re-elected or not, what was their performance. In the grand scheme of things, these tariffs likely blow over and US-Canada will have some deal so Trump's actual impact on the average Canadian life is very close to 0. Meanwhile those liberal politicians will have a fuck ton of influence, on economics, immigration, spending, etc. for years.

I hope it works out for you guys, hopefully they're more sensible than prior years and implement some real positive changes.

Exactly. I have no idea why it had the influence it did. And our Conservative party is pretty tame compared to Republicans anyways, Canada in general being more liberal. Shame.

OK yeah i take it back about being hopeful after seeing this talk from Carney. Sry bros, about to get smacked over the head with some outlandish carbon tax.. even though Canada has a fuck ton of boreal forestry absorbing the carbon, even though Canadian emissions are a drop in the bucket compared to China, India or some of these other countries. But dealing with Trump was the number one issue? Is this accurate?

Exactly. Canada, the country with 500 quadrillion square miles of nothingness, and a population density of 0.000001, has to pull back, while China and India for some reason don't. I mean, we all know the reason.

Well its not that India and China don't have to eventually pullback at all its that they have been developing nations. You think people in those countries who have watched the Western world have it so good for so long will pass up any chance to also have that life, no way, whatever it takes.

As for Canada, yes its priorities are wrong, in my opinion. We focused on allowing so many immigrants enter the country while maintain all our social safety nets or even in some cases making them more robust. They need a complete re-work. We shouldn't be heavily importing people to work while having such lax safety nets with no real prerequisites to obtaining. You want welfare, well you have to work a minimum of X hours and then you get a top-up to a livable amount. You want jordans principal money, well you have to be either working or enrolled in post secondary. Something along those lines. Canada right now just cuts cheques to Canadians who are more than capable of work but choose not to.

Next you have the gov't allowing mass migration happen via corporations , allowing all the corps to advertise for ultra low wages and saying see no one could be found, which then allows them to use foreign labour. Minimal oversight and then those workers for whatever reason area allowed to bring their entire family including multiple generations.

And as a result of carrying all this cost, Canada has had minima infrastructure renewals / upgrades in 30 years or more so going for electrification and tossing on carbon tax while you bleed out in clear areas, makes no sense. Fix the areas we are obviously bleeding from then we can look to upgrade.

Oh well.

Most of the country in uninhabitable, but yea a they could certainly develop a lot more of the 1/3rd that is usable instead of having 80% of their population live within 90 miles of the US border.

I'd probably go trans too if I looked like that

Yep, too bad blues didn't get elected.

I had wondered at which point these gigantic nations would lose their vaunted "developing" status and I've concluded - never. The reason - western liberal elite sees non-whites as inherently inferior and whites as privileged. Good old fashioned 2012-era proto-wokism. If India was populated not be Ranjeet but by freckle-faced Timmy, they'd already have carbon taxes shoved all the way up their Ganges.

While I don't know if there's a set threshold I am fairly certain its just tied to standard of living and anyone could certainly reasonably conclude the average standard of living is significantly lower than that of EU, North America, etc.

It's certainly not unreasonable to understand why most things will take a backseat while these people try to get to a standard of living they can now see so visibly via social media.

Lets take Cuba for instance, common destination for East Coast Canadians, direct flight out of Halifax. Just in the most recent 5 years suddenly people have phones, but not just phones, smart phones and now they very much see how everyone in the western world lives and its not just a few tourists who have a high quality of life and have we ever seen a tone change down there, attitudes have shifted enormously, and why wouldn't they.'

North Americans might be struggling to pay rent, but by comparisons to an average person from India, Cuba, etc. we have it so good to the point where you can do virtually nothing and there's a social safety net for you. Our misery often comes from the comparison to those around us or on TV or social media, etc.. Shift your view to who you're comparing against, well we're doing pretty good.

The entire Canada/USA beef could have been settled a lot more civilly if two adults sat down and hashed it out. Instead now we got two manchilds measuring the length of their manhood.

Can't disagree. Trump is a classic bully and Carnney strikes me as the pencil-necked geek who feigns heroic resistance. The rest of us can only watch and suffer the economic blowback of the easiest, most logical trade relationship in the history of humanity shit on for no reason.
