I think as long as bitcoins supply for mining starts to dwindle overtime then it won't be much of an issue. It does use a lot of energy consumption now, but there are many ways it can get that energy (even things like hydro power). Once they are mined, then they can be used.

their ruling party (ironically named "law and justice") has pushed through (simply ignoring parliamentary procedure to vote until it "passed", despite an already passed motion to postpone the vote) a censorship bill, in an effort to silence foreign (outside the EEA) media outlets critical of their right wing government. the specific target is popular american-owned news chanel TVN, which has been a thorn in the side of their current nationalist government.

most likely the bill will NOT pass the senate, and as of now it looks like the ruling party doesn't have the votes in the lower house to overturn the senate's likely rejection, but since they apparently don't care about the law and parliamentary procedure, anything could happen. what a great "democracy" our eastern neighbours have under their right wing populists government...

i wonder where all the poland and hungary "fans" (obviously admiring their ultra-conservative approach to women's rights, lgbtq rights, christianity, rejection of the EU which lifted the country out of poverty with billions in subsidies, and immigration) are, who love to defend those authoritarian regimes, while clutching their pearls over "censorship" and "free speech" when a fellow bigot gets in trouble for threatening to kill immigrants. this is what ACTUAL censorship and authoritarianism look like.
