Im french, and tbh im sure they dont lie.

But for US ... im unsure obviously but ... as they liing on everything ...

You cant do flat comparisons, it's just a non sense. However i could argue on density.
The only thing we can do yet is to compare how fast the pandemic got stopped by containment.
