Not sure what you were referring to with the data bit, obviously Trump hasn't released a plan on student debt (a fact you still stupidly disagree with) so there's nothing to cherry-pick. We only have the interview with the self-praised ideas. As far as the IRS goes the data on that is pretty comprehensive (and damning), and I'd be happy to segue to that if you'd rather talk about it.

It was stupid to try to bullshit your way through a discussion with someone who knows vastly more about these campaigns than you do. Don't do it unless your sole aim is to embarrass yourself. What's so unreasonable about that? Laughably trying (and failing) to invoke my career just makes you look like even more of a clown than the poor decision of trying to invent policy for the Trump campaign.

Private banks are more than capable of handling student loans... and your IRS data is cherry picked, and by its very nature hypothetical. There are plenty of alternatives to the current IRS that would handle taxes more fairly and efficiently, state or federal. The answer isn't always to double down on failure like the way you suggest.

Melania Trump's speech from tonight:

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

Michelle Obama's speech at the DNC convention in 2008:

“Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

Got nothing but love for Melania, and I know all these types of speeches will inevitably be generic, but how could Melania's speech writers fuck this up so bad?

no one has academic or literary ownership of standard messages of values like working hard treating people with respect and desires for children to suceed.

non-issue, and poor terminology. plagiarizing is what biden did in college. but alas the media at cnn npr etc will run with their anti-women and anti-legal immigrant rhetoric for the next 12-18 hours.

e: 2-3 lines in a 10 min speech - lines which neither woman could possibly have originated themselves because they're such "no shit" statements. some cant help but be small time so they focus on small things

Like I said, these types of speeches will inevitably be generic and similar to one another, but that is just way too damn similar to be a coincidence.

Am I giving Donald Trump too much credit if I say there is a chance that this could have been intentional? Donald Trump has been a genius at manipulating the media. He could use this story to rile them up and then use it against them.

"Look at the press! Now they are attacking my wife, who doesn't even speak English as a native language, for a speech about treating people with respect and having hopes for our future generations! The press is so dishonest. Horrible people, let me tell you."

Donald Trump loves to rile up the media about a non-story, play the victim, and then use it to his political advantage. He's employed that strategy to great success at many different junctions during his presidential campaign.

But I'm probably giving him and his campaign too much credit. I think a speech writer just fucked up really bad. Someone is probably getting fired for that.

Oh, I get it, you're not smart enough to figure out that I was talking about spin or you're incapable of defending yourself from the accusation, so you cry about who I am as a person because of your own insecurities in dealing with someone who is much, much smarter than you.

I get it. If I was stupid, I'd probably have to figure out all manner of ways of coping with my insecurities when I had to deal with people who were smarter than me. I mean, I like to think that I'd just get over it and recognize that sometimes people are smarter than me and not have to insecurely try to flex my mediocre intellect in conversations with people who are so much smarter than me, but I do recognize that I've never had to deal with being stupid and so I can't pretend that I'd somehow be above it all. I do wish you luck, tho.

And in the meantime, here's a present: https://twitter.com/mikehearn/status/755260215021432832

Unfortunately I can't find any other video, but check out the above link of the two speeches playing side by side. The way that it's cut is phenomenal. I hope it gets put on YouTube soon so it's easier to share. lol
