To be fair: I, personally, dont think that Biden and his admin actually believe in the lab leak theory - this is not about the science, this is about politics, always has been.
Last year, Trump embraced the lab leak theory, not because of a careful consideration of all the facts and evidence, but rather because it served his political agenda and distracted from his own covid failures.
His political foes reflexively dismissed the theory, not because they were convinced by data (which didnt exist at the time) that Trump was wrong, but rather because it served their political goals to oppose whatever Trump was doing and saying.
And now, Biden and the Democrats did a 180 on the issue because they are in charge and the lab leak theory serves them politically. By promoting the theory, they can put pressure on America's main geopolitical rival and, if successful, tarnish China's reputation around the world.
That their media lackeys went along with it without batting an eye is no surprise, but it's really sad to see scientists so willingly get politicized and used as pawns and stooges.

the entire media apparatus, most politicians, and a great deal of scientists outright rejected it period, when it certainly was at the very least plausible. their argument was that it didn’t spawn in a lab (with no proof!) and anyone even considering the notion it could have come from a lab were “racist conspiracy theory anti-science xenophobic blah blahs”
