It would have made the 2020 summer of peaceful protests look like a picnic that’s for sure. It wouldn’t be all out war but people would draw hard lines in the sand.

Honestly I agree. We shouldn't separate the union in a civil war, and we should allow people to immigrate back and forth before borders are established and create a fund to resettle people who aren't economically able otherwise. A North American Union can be formed with Canada and Mexico while conservatives preside over a crippled 3rd world United States that will probably petition to join the NAU within a few decades anyway, but not on their terms.
