At this point I want both the EU and the UK contract to be published entirely uncensored. We deserve to know who's screwing us.

AstraZeneka said the 16 million of the doses discovered were destined for Europe, with the remaining 13 earmarked for the Covax (to provide the poorest countries with vaccines.)
Problem: "We are beyond what the pharmaceutical group said it hoped to produce." Brussel source.
I don't think about publishing documents, i think about mandated police search, in situ. It could also be an EU political maneuver... Why not.

This, but I assume that the EU commission is lying here. If they had really secured fixed delivery quotas with AZ which are legally air tight (and not just wobbly best effort clauses), they would imho have published these contracts months ago. The fact that they didnt imho indicates that the EU fucked it up and signed a contract which lets AZ off the hook.

On the other hand, the way AZ is treating the EU here is an absolute impertinence. They might be legally in the right, but morally and ethically, it's extremely scummy.
Imposing export restrictions now would presumably trigger a trade war and be counterproductive for all sides in the current, precarious situation.

Therefore, my preferred course of action is that the EU sucks it up now, but after covid is under control, AstraZeneca is VIOLENTLY FUCKED TO DEATH!
"Oh, nice new drug you want to get on the EU market. Be a shame if it took the EMA 15 years to approve it."
"Nice plants you got there. Be a shame if they were ""randomly"" selected for surprise inspections every 2 weeks."
"Your European bank accounts got frozen after corruption allegations from 'anonymous sources'. Be a shame if it took years to resolve those charges and unfreeze your accounts."

AstraZeneca is screwing the EU and treating us as if we were some irrelevant little banana republic and not the biggest market in the world. They want to antagonize the EU? Fine, let's make an example out of them showing the rest of the world what happens when a corporation has the audacity to brazenly make an enemy out of the EU! :fume:

the EU is an irrelevant banana organisation, dont call it republic since that implies the EU is democratic

its not

the way its reported right now the 29 million shots cant be used here anyway, because that plant is not EMA certified

What are they supposed to do?

If AstraZeneca is correct, they are obligated to supply to the UK first until the UK is served. This sounds like a colossal fuck-up by the EU in terms of procurement.

The only possible explanation for what happened is that AstraZeneca has knowingly bitten more than they can chew when they signed those contracts. No matter which contract they signed first, that with the UK or the one with the EU, they must have signed one of these two contracts knowing full well that they would have to massively underdeliver to the EU while exploiting a dramatic interpretation of the "best efforts" clause as an excuse.

Like I said: AZ's behavior is probably legally okay, but definitely very scummy and untrustworthy.

AstraZeneca has a 'best efforts' clause with the EU whereas they have a contract with the UK where they're obliged to deliver as many doses on certain dates as agreed

If it was illegal, AstraZeneca would have given the doses to the EU over the UK in a heartbeat as the larger, more influential state...and if that didn't happen, the EU would taken them to court

The EU heavily weighted their vaccine rollout on AstraZeneca instead of getting 100m+ doses from 3 vaccine providers to diversify their risk

We haven't even talked about the 7m unused doses of AstraZeneca in the EU as a result of European politicians undermining the vaccine. 80% of the French don't trust that vaccine, and over 50% in Germany. So what's the point taking our doses if you aren't going to use them?

our astrazeneca doses would be gone in a heartbeat, BUT if you are not working in a hospital, elderly home, police etc or you are not a half dead 70+ year old, there is barely a chance to even get a sniff at the vaccine

the organisation in germany is on the level of 3rd world shitholes

i would go to and get a shot right fucking now and millions think the same way
