The FBI and DoJ brought wildly disproportionate resources to trying to convict them and focused the entire billion dollar apparatus on some yokels who had been minding their own business at BBQs and swimming pools. The jury was indignant and fully acquitted two, but was hung on two others, so now the government is going to take a second crack at them in a new trial, and trying to prosecute 8 more people for aiding the people even though they can't convict them in the first place.
Its an example of how the FBI is broken to the core, and another good argument for why it should be completely disbanded and either rebuilt from the ground up or simply abandoned in favor of state law enforcement. The FBI keeps having case after case of embarrassments, abuse of power, leaking, palace intrigue, political motives and full blown corruption. All the way up to the top leadership and all the way down to the low level agents. There's so much rot, from Comey to McCabe to Strzok to Operation Crossfire Hurricane, lying to judges, faking evidence, spying on politicians, unmasking wiretaps, raiding journalists, etc etc- and a series of bungled cases of supposed counterterrorism that displays either total incompetence or willful maliciousness- that its a perfectly reasonable argument to say the FBI simply should not exist anymore. Fire them all, reallocate their budget as grants to states to hire the unemployed agents.
