Donald Trump is evil.

Meanwhile, over in GI Joe World...

1. Afghanistan Withdrawal fiasco.
2. Immigration and Border Policy fiasco.
3. Personal Pet Project Ukraine over 10-20 years fiasco, bringing the notion of a nuclear conflict into the public domain.
4. Supported and led Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide in Israel.
5. Advocated and supported LGBTQ+ fiasco.
6. Did absolutely nothing meaningful during his tenure to ease tensions either in the US or the World, in fact he led the opposite.

Nobody thinks Donald Trump is a saint but he is not Hitler / Evil. Trump was far and away the better candidate.

It does show you how much the environment overwhelms everything when it's like I'm pulling teeth to get Goom to oppose Trump pardoning people who assaulted cops. Lmao. What a weird political movement.

Do you think Tim Kaine's son should have received 22 years in prison like Enrique Tarrio?
Tarrio wasn't even at the capitol, he was convicted of thoughtcrime for 'sedition' for his role in organizing a political protest

Do you think Tim Kaine's son should have received 14 years in prison like Peter Schwartz?
Schwartz sprayed officers with pepper spray, Tim Kaine's son pepper sprayed officers and then squared off and tried to wrestle with them

Do you think Tim Kaine's son should have received 10 years in prison like Thomas Webster?
Webster was struck by a police officer with a punch to the face, and responded by swinging and missing at him with a metal pole, then the two wrestled and Webster stole his gas mask and retreated.

I support common sense and equal application of law, the rest follows.

I mean he has the power to commute sentences too. Which is appropriate is a case by case basis.
I doubt anyone in the entire January 6th show trial court received a fair sentence so they'd probably all need to be reviewed including even violent offenders, because even if someone was seriously harming others, their sentence should still be proportionate.

Honestly what bothers me is that I even need to elaborate on or explain this concept. I should simply be able to say "I support common sense and equal application of law, the rest follows"
Its a taint to the civil fabric of our nation that the impulse isn't reflexively towards fairness and impartial justice.
John Adams famously defended the british troops accused in the boston massacre and demonstrated that our fledgling nation could apply evenhanded justice and mercy when it was the course of justice, what got lost since then?

So your position is that we should find the lightest sentence given in the United States for a similar act, and have that apply to all the Jan 6thers crimes?

Why don't we do this for every federal crime charged? Why the special focus on Jan 6thers? Seems your focus is on Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol, but if you actually cared about impartial justice this would be an actual program which focused on everyone, not just those who broke into the Capitol to interrupt the counting of electoral votes.

Trump appears to have won an outright majority of Hispanic men.

As Trump keeps moving forward, the Democratic party wanted to stay the same.

I'm glad you're on the record, cause Trump pardoning people who assaulted cops is kind of likely now and I know your preference is to defend his actions. We stand together on this.

How about you ofthevoid? Can you join Goom and myself in opposing Trump pardoning people who assaulted police officers?

For what it's worth i agree too. Fuck the jan 6th idiots whether or not they claim they were incited.

Well, now that the dust has settled, what will be the legacy of the Biden/Harris administration?

I think itll be that they gave rise to Russia/China/Iran unhindered and let the notion of "don't fuck with America" go to the dustbin of history, but thats just a silly canadians perception of what happened the last four years. Diversity and inclusion have been trending upwards, so that's a positive...right?

The punishment was entirely disproportionate to the crime. That's obvious. When the government is arguing that a murderer who burned down a house with someone inside (in the middle of a riot) deserves consideration of circumstance, but some bozo who wandered onto the Capitol deserves the hammer somethings gone really, really wrong.

I think we should, and in many cases we do. Criminal sentencing is supposed to be uniform and proportionate.

Why the special focus on Jan 6thers?

Because they were wildly railroaded and given astronomically disproportionate sentences for purely political reasons.
People who should have spent a few days in jail are spending decades in prison. People who committed no crime and should never have been charged let alone convicted were sentenced to multiple decades in prison for conduct that should be protected under the 1st amendment.

Do you really not get why this rankles me as a civil libertarian? Why the focus on a guy who organized a political protest and assembled people to petition his government for redress, a guy who committed no violent acts and made absolutely no proximate threats- and was convicted of literal sedition like Joe Biden bodymorphed into King George and demanded the hanging of disloyal subjects. Why am I focused on the case of people who should have been protected for their political expression under the first amendment and instead are rotting in prison at the democrat's behest? Why do I focus on the cases of innocent citizens being flung to appease mobs? Why do I focus on the case of Joe Biden sending storm troopers to raid the private homes of political dissidents and journalists and economists (!?!) in the middle of the night with guns drawn.
