After Macron made unsubstantiated claims against the efficacy of the AZ vaccine, as well as EU countries restricting the age groups offered the vaccine, EU citizens have such a poor view of it that they aren't coming forward for doses

France have only used 16% of their AZ vaccine doses and it's a similar story in Spain, Italy and Germany. Supply is not the only issue

With evidence suggesting one dose of the AZ vaccine reduces hospitalisations by 94% over a 4 - 6 week incubation period across all age groups, the EU must now attempt to reduce vaccine hesitancy if it wants to innoculate its population

It was really incompetent public communication by our leaders. The AZ vaccine struggling with the E484K mutation (which is found in the South African and the Brazilian variant) is nonetheless a huge problem. A couple of months down the line, this could become a gigantic issue for any country whose vaccine-induced herd immunity relies predominantly on AZ.

The AZ vaccine still prevents most hospitalisations and deaths of the SA variant, just not transmission. Also, it's very unlikely that mutation will become dominant ahead of the Kent strain seeing as we stamped it out pretty well, and we're shit at contact tracing.

There have been reports in recent days that the British B.1.1.7 variant has, in various places, picked up the E484K mutation which induces an immune escape.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy gets a historic prison sentence for corruption. He can serve one year of a suspended term at home. https://t.co/qsy5T0hxqt

1. It wasn't validated at this time.
2. It's effective but was causing more colateral than other vaccines (meaning it's good yes, but still cause reactions)
3. Is from UK

Curfew isn't going away for now. Fucking sucks. Did visit my parents and sister this weekend. Sister is seeing massive increase in intakes at ER/ICU. Mostly 30 to 50-yo.

It's just so fucking mentally draining. I haven't seen most of my friends in a year. I know I should be happy cause there are loads of folks who have it way worse, but I just need to vent.

Also fuck our housing atm. Last year house prices rose by an average of 10%. The average house in NL is now €340k. To be able to mortgage that, you need €80k/yr gross income, way more than the average person earns.

Don't buy at sea level ...
Here we just started a reinforced curfew and the main argument is : "4-6 more weeks", which is the required time for less humidity associated with cold, and for even more people to be vaccinated.
There's an increase in ICU; while we have less deaths, same thing: younger ones. Ask your sister if the average time spent in ICU is the same than older ones, and how long it is. (retention)

"Just 3 more weeks..."

I'm so sick and tired of this shit. Europe's political leaders have utterly failed at their most crucial task of providing timely vaccinations. And despite having had one year to come up with less socially devastating countermeasures than unimaginative blanket lockdowns, they have failed miserably at this task too. Normally, heads should be rolling (politically speaking) all across Europe for this complete and total failure. :fume:
