a bit of a tangent, but for anyone who's followed any of the ample MTG drama and sjw storms of the past, this one is a doozy:
https://twitter.com/aceanddeuceMTG/status/1264640255753285633the link is pretty opaque but the story goes like this
WotC (game devs) drafted changes to their open-to-all professional leagues for the coronavirus pandemic, but way before releasing the new rules to the public, they told their list of recognized pro players what the changes would be. That gave them a significant advantage over the other players since they could plan around the pandemic much earlier while everyone else had to wait for the announcement. But one unidentified pro player was appalled and leaked the rules changes to another semi-pro named Austin who wasn't on the list, who then posted the changes publicly to twitter. WotC demanded Austin name the whistleblower who leaked to him, and when he refused, they banned him from all platforms including the online game interfaces. Kind of like threatening to jail journalists for refusing to name their sources.
He posted the email chain when he got banned live on his stream
>WotC: ..."You recently posted confidential information related to Magic: The Gathering on your Twitter account. This information had not yet been readied for public announcement. Early release of incomplete information can create a poor experience for our players. As such, we appreciate your help in learning how you obtained this information so that we can prevent future leaks of this kind."
>Austin: {long response email criticizing how MPL-chosen players are given an unfair competitive advantage in many ways}
>Austin: "...Frankly I believe it is extremely unprofessional just downright silly to ask me that question. I will not be complying with that nonsense..."
>WotC: "...Your failure to cooperate with our investigation has resulted in your immediate suspension from the DCI, MTGO, and MTGA. These accounts have all been banned until further notice. During this time you may not participate in any Magic event as a player, organizer, volunteer or staff...."
as far as shit stories of authorities handling the coronavirus epidemic within their own spheres, this one gets a hearty chortle from me.
