The inability to retain Trump from yelling blatant lies on the stage was the point. It was intentional weakness to court right wingers.

Well, their previous plan of courting the TDS crowd with their 24/7 orange-man-bad coverage wasn't exactly a good long-term plan either. Since 2021, their ratings absolutely cratered. At the end of the day, CNN's product didn't have enough journalistic substance to outcompete outlets like the NYTimes with liberals who want their media diet to contain some proverbial meat.
