I agree that it's not worth my time to engage too deeply in conspiracy theories. You just started out your question asking what the other side thought, so i thought it was relevant to your question.
The other side thinks that Iran was always making nukes, that they're an evil regime that war may be justified against even though they dont personally want war from a cost standpoint (in lives and money), and likely that Islam plays a larger role in this conflict that what you or I would think.
I try not to ask too many questions of cultists, because the amount of gaps we have in accepted facts is too large. Like Ghot, i nitpick basic facts he got wrong that a demonstrable, then just shitpost on him. i like to get him to double down, then post a basic source proving he's wrong, just so he has to blindly doubt the source and look even more stupid. that's how i choose to engage with his ilk, rather than earnest debate.

to be fair, depending on how you define the word, 'evil' regime is a term that i don't have a problem with when it comes to iran. an authoritarian theocracy is not a place i personally would like to live in, and their stance on israel is of course unacceptable. of course there is a whole lot of context, nuance, and history related to that, which certainly elevates the whole issue above a simplistic good vs. evil dichotomy, but in terms of labels, 'evil regime' is a reasonably accurate one.
i just thought i put those questions out there, so that even if no one outright admits they were being stupid just accepting the "didn't cost us anything, was a smart move and a win" talking point, some of the less indoctrinated conservatives might at least think about it, and maybe consider those factors. maybe not likely but still worth a shot imo...
