When the four kids in my family were young and AAU swimmers, we used to go through 7 gallons of milk a week.
And we were all below 6% body fat.

We ate a ton of everything we could, cause the swim practices burnt it right back off.

Careful man, you start talking about body fat percentages and you might trigger the beta male lefties

I’m sorry are you serious? We eat home cooked meals for a medium sized family and enjoy a glass of milk once or twice a day. I am guessing you eat a lot of prepared meals, because that is just regular consumption for those who enjoy milk.

I find it odd when people think drinking milk is gross. Why do you think when you go to the grocery store there is an entire department dedicated to dairy products?

Most people don't make every meal in heavy crème.

The main issue we have at play is the lack of inbetween terms for economic shifts.

there's balls to the wall prosperity, there's stagnant growth, there's recession, and there's depression.

we're not at stagnant growth, but the current economic state isn't anywhere near 2008 recessed levels. we're in an economic downturn, with a strong jobs market, with a labor shortage, with inflation, and with spending still not bottomed out. that's an odd cocktail but points to a worse recession coming.

terms like recession weren't designed to handle odd cases. we're used to a market where if jobs are readily available that means spending is exploding. we're used to inflation absolutely tanking spending. and we're also in a place where 2 years from now people may look back and laugh, saying "oh they thought THAT was a recession".

I have been saying for the entire year of 2022 that we are living in a Recession.
However most people refuse to acknowledge this.

#1,.. Money in your pocket. Inflation. YOU don't realize things are as bad as they are because you have money in your pocket.

#2 Black Friday / Cyber Monday / Thanks Giving / Prognostication of Christmas.

Black Friday, There is no massive spike in spending. It's so bad that it even plateaued. People are trying to keep money in their pocket.
Cyber Monday,. a net LOSS, people aren't spending.

Thanks giving,. Turkey price up due to culling of birds. More expensive than ever.

Christmas will be cheap and tight. There is no hope for it saving the economy for Q1 of 2023.

So,.. Are you ready to wake up?

My read is we are trending to the generally accepted def of recession and not much is being done domestically to address it beyond feigned efforts. Meanwhile, foreign events are exacerbating the trend as global economies are coupled tightly for most of the West.

Well if youre not all fat then I apologizing for being quick to judge but that just seems like a fuckton of milk even if you are casually enjoying it and cooking with it.

Also to answer your question: government subsidies.

I'm actually fascinated - how were they going through this much? Just drinking glasses of milk or cereal or what?

Well let's see. In the winter we had two practices a day (14 miles total), and in the summer we had three practices a day (21 miles total).
This was a 365 day a year thing, from the time we were 6 years old till we were 18 years old... 4 of us.

For example, at breakfast, we didn't eat a bowl of cereal, we ate a family size box of cereal... each one of us.
On french toast day... maybe 8-10 pieces each slathered with butter, cinnamon and sugar.
On cold winter days, we'd have a few boxes of jello, each. Dry, or in hot water if we had the time. Yellow jello gives the most energy, btw.

Six total in our family. On pizza night we'd get 5 xtra large pizzas, and if our parents had allowed it, we probably would have eaten the greasy paper too, and maybe the box as well.

Our parents never had to tell us to "finish our plate". We ate everything that wasn't faster than us.

If you want to experience what we went through, swim 7 miles in 1.5 hours, twice or three times a day, and see how much YOU eat. :)

Even when I got older, I remember getting a huge roast beef sandwich and a quart of milk, for lunch... every day.
I would have had more, but we only got a half hour for lunch.
