You mentioned professional jobs, and I agree, that yes, they can negotiate a higher wage. However, not all jobs are like that. I am talking about people who work jobs like cashiers, merchandizers, servers, or just generally jobs that don't require a lot of skills. These people usually don't have a lot of bargaining power. I also doubt it's possible for them to unionize themselves. Like I can't imagine burger flippers at McDonald's organizing themselves into a union. It's just not happening.
They could, but most of the workers in these jobs don’t see themselves staying too long and won’t invest the time needed to either unionize, advance within their organization or ask for a raise outright.
Of course there are people with "dead-end jobs" and that’s why we need a decent minimum wage that’s adjusted to the cost of living.
