A well-regulated militia is necessary for the security of a free state. The militia is composed of armed citizens. Ergo, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The first clause is a preamble explaining the need for the second. Every other interpretation is clearly and obviously wrong. It goes without saying that the intent was to prevent federal tyranny, and giving the federal government the right to circumscribe who can and can't carry a firearm defeats the very purpose of the 2nd Amendment.

To undermine the Bill of Rights is to undermine the rule of law. If it's ok to "reimagine" the 2nd Amendment out of existence, then it's ok to do it with the 1st, and all the others besides. There are clearly prescribed rules for changing an amendment, our friends here would do well to pursue changes through the legal, democratic process.

Scalia was an incredibly blatant hack that regularly contradicted himself to hurt democrats and help republican presidents. It's really telling how intellectually bankrupt modern conservatism is that they hold him up as a unique talent.
