blacks can buy hot dogs. as they should have been and thankfully we've agreed its ridiculous they couldnt.
i want dog meat, but I would need to travel to China. i understand the expense and hurdles between me and dog meat but it isnt fundamental to myself feeling free if I dont get to eat a dog in my lifetime?
in my realm, the blacks gets the far away hotdog if thats their goal and they work hard to achieve it. just like I get my dog meat.
in your realm? everyone gets a ticket to the moon and hot dogs within reach? *keeping in mind its 2022 and blacks get served mostly anywhere without discrimination*
These are just examples to highlight my point.
Having the theoretical potential to do something isn't freedom if there is no practical capacity to do so.
I am not "free to go to the moon" if there's no way for me to actually get there. At least, not free enough that it actually matters.
In my ideal world, you would be free to get healthcare. Period. End of story. In the conservative world, you are "free to try to get healthcare, if you can afford it".
There's always going to be practical limitations on what we can do that with, but the freedom to have food, housing, healthcare, and productive fulfliling work are something we could easily accomplish as a society.
