Fun fact: Cheney got annihilated by a margin of 37% in spite of Wyoming Democrats flocking to her aide.

In 2016/18/20, there were 20k, 19k and 23k votes cast in the WY Dem primary for the WY-AL seat. This year, there were just 7k. So it seems pretty safe to say that the bulk of WY Dems flocked over to the GOP primary this year and cast their vote for Liz. Subtract these roughly 13k votes from her final tally and she finishes at about 21% of the vote instead of 29%; losing to Hageman by 45%.

Now she can finally start her gig as the ""Republican"" pundit on CNN or MSNBC.

yes of course, it’s ideal for them to have controlled opposition so they can feel better about voting for lifelong segregationists like biden who are wrong about every major foreign policy decision for 40 years (per Obama’s Sec Def)

i find it hilarious how trump cultist always talk about how far the dems have allegedly moved to the left (lol) while also calling literally every old-school republican (cheney, romney, mccain...) "RINO", proving how far they have radicalised and moved to the right.
in reality, none of those "RINOs" have suddenly discovered their love for lefty issues. they are still staunchly conservative. the only thing that makes them "RINOs" is that they dare to oppose trump. the GQP and the bulk of its supporters has literally become a cult.

literally the only reason cheney lost her primaries is that she didn't go along with trump's lies about the election, which speaks volumes about our resident conservatives opposing her, calling her a RINO.

Cheney isn't just an "old-school Republican", she has become an outright "anti-Republican Republican". She actively worked to get as few Republicans voted to Congress as possible; she very deliberately allowed Pelosi to exploit her as stooge and bipartisan veneer for the Jan 6 committee. Also, she barely worked her constituents, missing almost all townhalls, running ads geared at Democratic crossover voters rather than Republican base voters and so on. Not exactly a winning strategy in a 75-25 state.

While I agree that "RINO" is not necessarily the correct label for someone like Cheney, it's just a fact that the party moved away from the Bushes, Cheneys, Romneys - and not just in terms of demeanor but also, and more importantly, in terms of policies and ideology.


And as much as you want to downplay it, the Democratic party has moved substantially to the left on both social and economic policy. The Obama 08 platform would be considered homophobic, xenophobic, racist, sexist, classist by the standards of the 2022 Democratic party.

Cheney has spent the better part of the last year working to elect Democrats. Wyoming voters want to elect Republicans. Her priorities are out of step with her voter base, so she got tossed.
