Children as young as 12 have been granted marriage licenses in South Carolina, Alaska and Louisiana, while 13-year-olds have been married in 14 states.

Well, for one our marriage laws/conventions are based on English common laws. It's a fairly recent phenomena that people aren't to marry below 18. For centuries based on common law the age was 12+girls, 14+ for boys.

Like we look at this and think, 'omg how fucked up' because we have this picture of a 45 year old trying to marry a 15 year old but IMO that's extremely rare, even in places where that type of stuff is allowed. Personally i don't really have an issue if two teens decide to marry. If we as a society settled on that it's okay that teens have sex, then it makes no sense for them to not be able to marry.
