A single assassin targeted a single person (Archduke Ferdinand of Austria), yet that led to World War I.

Germany targeted Poland, and that turned into World War II.

Not saying this will turn into WW III, but there are geopolitical ramifications that extend outside the borders of Ukraine.

500 atmospheric tests sounds like a lot, except around 95% of them were done with antiquated technology compared to today. And 500 is nothing compared to the 3100-15000+ that might be launched in a global deployment.

Yep. And that's the point with regard to hostile deployment of nuclear weapons. Atmospheric testing was primarily done over remote islands where very little ground debris was sent into the air. Hostile deployment of nukes would be over populated land areas, and would send millions of tons of debris into the atmosphere.

It absolutely led to it. Could things have been prevented? Sure. But they weren't. It's part of the historical record. The point is that, just because it's just Russia invading just Ukraine, that doesn't mean that there isn't a potential for this to spread into a much greater conflict. Personally, I don't think it will become WWIII, but the chances of it doing so are not zero.

This isn't world war 3. Every conflict people start saying world war 3.

Did you not read where I specifically stated that I don't believe this will become WWIII? Is it a world war now? Absolutely not. Could it potentially turn into one? Sure it could. It's not likely to IMO, but the possibility is there, however remote.

We're in a world war 3 thread, so i'm talking about world war 3 because it's so tantalizing to people's ears.
