Prison costs a lot and isn't' working on drug use, which is a HUGE % of crime. Poverty>Drug use>crime

I would say counseling re habilitation if people show they are willing. Social workers get inserted here to direct people in the right way to solve problems.
They typically have better people skills than cops, and can invest time in helping people not just shooting them when they wont 'comply"

This didn't solve the problem at all. These people are so far gone that even the ones that seem to benefit from those programs a large percentage falls back into their old habits. I've seen documentaries covering this stuff, you can google them.

The only thing that works is prevent that stuff to happen which means taking drugs off the streets. Or just throw your hands in the air, give up, legalize all shit and let them kill themselves which ironically is what blue states seem to do right now.

We created most of those "career criminals" by planting drugs on them. Police are caught all the time planting evidence.
