After all of this, every hawk that tries to speak and argue for another intervention or war needs to be backhanded and told to shut the fuck up at the very minimum.

Afghanistan- thousands of American troops dead, over a trillion spent, complete failure. Look at what's happening.

Libya- complete failed state, civil war raging on for years to this day, thousands of African migrants streaming into Europe because of it

Syria- our attempt to depose of Assad? complete failure. We literally sent care packages to moderate 'rebels', just kidding terrorists, and saw our arms in the hand of al-nusra and co.

Iraq- probably best case of all, still a ton of casualties, ton of money spent and for what? To have a government that's Shiite controlled and basically an ally in the region to Iran- our number one enemy in the region.

Libya fell because Gaddafi because weak and he was a dictator and that's what happens to them when they soften. He gave people the rights to speech and assembly, which are the tools that destroy dictatorships.

He also fell because of a no-fly zone...he could have squashed the opposition quite brutally.

the military leadership (which focuses more on “white rage” and studying how to re-implement ‘separate but equal’ instead of military strategy) said our most important airbase was not important two months before we decided to evacuate immediately

Yeah I can't figure out who's more incompetent in this scenario, the commander in chief or the top generals or the state department or intelligence community
Mark Milley definitely comes out looking the worst at face value, spending all that time on social justice and identity politics while his command simply crumbled underneath him. But if he was fiddling as rome burned, Biden was just absent

We broke the camels back. Between us and the larger NATO allies we basically neutered and caused the Libyan military to implode. I don't know what would of happened if we didn't interfere but it could of been something similar to Syria. Don't minimize what large scale military airstrikes can do. Look at Syria for example, Russia basically won Assad the war when they sent in their bombers. Same case with Libya.

That would have been a profoundly dumb idea I think. I imagine the number of soldiers killed in those operations would exceed the total number that will die until Aug 31. Also, as soon as the Afghans got word that we were disarming them, they'd blackmarket that shit quite quickly because they are corrupt AF.

After the operation is complete, I expect to see several resignations. There really are no excuses for some of the mishaps. It would not surprise me if Blinken stepped down given that the refugee crisis lands squarely with the State Department.

Tbh, I don't even care all that much about symbolic resignations by Blinken, Austin or other politicians. It is the top brass in the Pentagon and the intelligence community which has really mismanaged and misplanned the withdrawal and came to fatally flawed assessments of the situation in Afghanistan ("it will take at least 6 months before Kabul falls"). This is where heads really need to roll.

Biden isn’t a leftist.

A real leftist would have sent in special forces to assassinate their entire government, as was done by the USSR.

I mean it doesn't really work like that. Do you know how expensive that operation would be and how many troops that would require? We've arming them for almost 20 years...you can't just take it over the course of 5 months.

take our stuff in our possession. whatever they have they can keep. instead we left it all.

any comment on biden’s presser? “they instructed me to call on someone first” WTF

Milley’s claims to fame have been training the surrendering Afghan army and studying “white rage” instead of focusing on military strategy and tactics.

this is the highest ranking military personnel underneath the Commander and Chief. imagine Washington, Grant, Teddy, Pershing, Patton, MacArthur, or Ike behaving like this. Even Jackson and Harrison won in battle when it mattered

The ones in charge here were the lobbyists paying the defense contractors. The war in Afghanistan was a money laundering operation to funnel federal funds into the private industry and the generals and executive branch were paid to keep their mouths shut mostly.

The only thing I fault Biden for here is not being able to save more American citizens, and giving the Chinese our military technology...

Almost everything we left behind is 40-50 year old tech. China is coming out ahead here though, not because of military gear but in very close mining colony they are getting as Afghanistan. They are basically Africa 2.0 for China. They're already licking their chops and can't wait to get in there and start mining for rare earths.
