Japan has a third of the GDP, less than a tenth of the population, and a vastly underfunded military. Suffice to say that Japan would quickly lose any conventional engagement without the full backing of the United States. A conventional war with Japan would almost certainly mean a conventional war with the United States, though, so I think that's unlikely.

you're forgetting due to exposure during WW2 and the Fukashima meltdown that Japanese have +2 resistance points to nuclear poison attacks.

U.S. needs to step in and basically say if a single shot is fired towards Japan we will respond in kind, and we're parking our subs between Taiwan and China, and staying there for the forseeable future.

You do realize usa cannot get involved into chinas politics as usa is china's bitch, right?
They dont even need to return fire if you ever start it. They can stop export and you'll end up killing eachother for survival

What product does China give us that we can't get elsewhere?

They give us a ton of cheap shit we could get elsewhere for more money, but nothing that I'm aware of that we are fundamentally dependent on.

Taiwan makes something that we are 100% dependent on, as is the rest of the world, and that is semiconductors. They are one of two major suppliers and without them chip shortages wreck the world economy for decades.

They control the vast majority of rare earth production and refinement, things that pretty much every electronic depend on.

Thanks to environmentalism and western feigned moral superiority those industries are non existent here.
