I disagree, but only because my view of the world was 180 from yours growing up. Most of the people I grew up with were spanked like me, they grew up just fine. The few that got into drugs had parents that were more like friends. You know, the house we would all go to to smoke weed and drink liquor cause the parents didn’t care lmao (good kids do stupid shit too). I can’t speak on all of them but at least a few of those dudes who got into heavier drugs had parents that never spanked them.
I will spank my kid in front of his friends if he acts up. You have to deflate their ego a little bit, it is not healthy for children to think the world revolves around them and that they can live by their own rules etc. they really have no clue what’s best for them.
I wouldn’t spank my kid in front of his friends after a certain age however, just when he’s younger and the kids aren’t old enough to bully him about it, you know? It’s really just a way to show him he fucked up and I’m being serious 😂 no punishment afterwards either, just the spanking to assert dominance and then give him a talking to about what he did and why we don’t do whatever it was.
People like to look at the negative of getting physical, but if you reinforce it with a positive talk afterwards and show affection after discipline you will get a better outcome. I think most of the kids that end up doing drugs / lashing out are being spanked more and shown as less affection from their parents or they just never spanked their kids in the first place and let them run around making their own rules which eventually clashes with the laws in reality.
