So first, Trump mischaracterizes what the Times report says. The claim was that the GRU was paying bounties to Taliban-linked groups to kill Americans and other coalition troops.

He says everybody is denying it, but that's not true. Ratcliffe is denying Trump and Pence were briefed on it, but he didn't say the report was wrong on the intelligence.

This looks to be a scandal any way you slice it, unless every news organization in the country has bad sources. Either Trump and his team are lying, or someone was holding back critical intelligence from the president and vice president.

the 106th scandal

Hmmm... So Ratcliffe, the Director of National Intelligence, says Trump was NOT briefed on this, and somehow you still blame Trump for this. Curiouser and curiouser.

Hopefully this presidency will make the parties vet their nominees better in the future.

Hopefully we'll get something beyond a plutocracy with two shitty options. What was nominated last cycle was a disservice to every US citizen. Even the third party front-runners were comical.

Not with the anti-democratic tendencies of capitalism.

We are leaning towards authoritarian capitalism as the next step from liberal democracy. All the people in the streets aren't stopping that either.

Libertarianism as a personal philosophy is pretty dead. Even political libertarians are trying to make laws to control people by restricting options arbitrarily and saying where people can and can't go.

I think plenty liberals, conservatives, libertarians, and the rest of us partisans who are not communards, sincerely believe we are deep in the territory of nihilist materialism as a societal paradigm. Communards are nihilistic materialists by design.

I think Karl Popper is right in that capitalism is a Hegelian system similar to communism and fascism in which it uses objective reality and the view that history in the end will justify totalitarianism and any crime committed on the way there.

Just look at how this Trump government has destroyed small business while courting and grooming a handful of major corporations during the federal response to the pandemic. LA Lakers getting small business loans lol. The illusion of choice is replacing actual rights in society. Humans have less and are able to do less to keep themselves safe.

When the government has to pick a side when health insurance companies don't keep their promises around treatment of covid, waived authorizations, and waived approvals for changes in Level of Care they will side with the health insurance companies over the American family.

It would all be easier if we could just play nice in the sandbox, but the reality is that over half of humans have Genghis Khan's DNA in them because he was the best at what humans are best at doing and as a result his genetics are most successful. Its fucked up.

Huge coincidence that the guy who everyone said was a corrupt incompetent during the campaign keeps doing corrupt, incompetent things as president!

Political parties have almost no control over who the nominee is. I'd much rather we go back to the smoke filled rooms... we can't trust the masses to make sensible choices.

HRC is a counterexample to your claim that parties can't control who their nominee is.

And the party has the war chest, that means a lot. They just have to risk being punished if they fail. Nixon said politics is the art of rewarding your friends and punishing your enemies. If they don't have the stomach for it they should go work for someone who does.

Trump is right in ruling his party through fear. Men love at their own discretion, they fear at the discretion of the prince...
