I don't care for the alpha act. What's happening on the trade front is tangible and has been moving the stock market, something that's a real gauge if something is impactful or not.

If the Chinese gov't was on board with IP, it would largely happen. They only pretend to be on board because for the last 20-30 years it's Chinese companies largely benefiting at the expense of western companies that decided to form 'partnerships' thinking the Chinese will honor non-disclosures or thinking China's justice system was going to be objective in judging Chinese vs foreign company cases.

We can't enforce it unilaterally but countries justice systems can be on the same page, that's why you have a pretty symbiotic corporate world order in places like North America, western Europe, Australia, etc. These guys learned to play by the same rules and at least somewhat fair when it comes to IP. Just because it's difficult to get doesn't mean it shouldn't be strived for.

The very idea of trusting the chinese to create, enforce, and upkeep IP protections is silly. i wont entertain the idea that it can be done in any meaningful way, period. difficult to get is still a LONG way away from where i think it is in reality. a mile off in fact. it's impossible short of a world war we defeat them in, then occupy, then rebuild their entire society.

I'm not sure how a non-interventionist/isolationist Trump supporter can pretend that their positions will more substantively confront China than a more traditionalist American foreign policy. Refusing to get into TPP because of the logic that American workers will be harmed, even though it would ingratiate us more with China's neighbors. Threatening our relationship with South Korea because of trade and troop costs, and even debating whether to pull out of the country entirely. Offering up the possibility that Japan gets nukes, because of the inherent belief that America shouldn't have to defend it's allies over there. Advocating a smaller military budget and a much lighter footprint globally, including Asia, which inevitably gives China room to expand their influence.
