I didn't say smoking was a good idea. I'm saying telling an adult what they may ingest is none of my fucking business, and it's none of yours either. I'm not defending big tobacco, I'm defending a clear delineation between being an adult and not being an adult. Getting to be an adult means you get to make your own decisions about what you do to/with yourself, be that drugs, alcohol, tobacco, abstaining thereof, etc. What it's not is "you're an adult capable of X, but not Y, but sometimes Z if A, B, & C also agree."

I smoked for years. My dad smoked for years. We're both ex-smokers. I'm pretty sure I have an informed opinion.

I think it's stupid. We couldn't drink beer until age 21 and yet my friends and I still did it in high school while going to the movies. Anyone who is old enough knows how kids think. Tell them they can't have something and they'll want it even more. It's a weird nature of defiance or biological right of passage. This will just create more people with petty legal records.

I disagree with the Trump admin and they're being hypocritical. They were making good ground with prison reform for small-time offences, and then they roll out this. This is what I mean when I say Trump isn't always the messiah that his followers hail him as. Occasionally he has dumb people whispering in his ear about dumb ideas and he'll green-light them because he thinks it'll upgrade his opinion among the masses to sate his vanity.

Besides, you can always sign up, learn to shoot, and die for your country by age 18 or 17, depending on parental/guardian control.
