Seems like an awfully efficient system.

Or you know use very basic social interactions like normal folk.

I feel like we're going back to segregation

but it's now about sexuality instead of race

Does every situation ever need to "prepare people for the real world?

Yes and no. The way society at large seems to be set up is... the further you get from home, the less warm and fuzzy the world CAN become.

In the way back days we had... tribes. Your safe space was with the tribe. Everywhere else were... tigers.

The "tribal" system doesn't work anymore due to the fact that there's just not enough ROOM for all the tribes. So the civilized world has compromised. Now we have neighborhoods. Places where most of the people have a lot in common.
The further you get from your neighborhood, the more varied viewpoints you will run into. It's no longer tigers, but it can get just as... wild.

I would say that before a child reaches college they should have learned how to handle themselves, out in public. I guess it's more the parents job to teach this... or maybe grade school and high school somewhat.

I guess what I'm saying is that for those who need safe spaces, they should just stay IN their safe spaces until they have the skill set to venture out into the jungle. The IDEA that one can carry an unimpeachable safe space with them, in the form of a badge... is not very realistic.

/e I think deep down everyone wants the Star Trek Next Generation world. Not the space ship part but the... everyone is happy and well adjusted part.
However, even in that fictional world, they still had to all work their way through the original Star Trek first.

So then if every moment doesn't need to be, what's wrong about this example?

I guess it all depends on HOW this "discussion" was set up. If it's out in the college "park" area, then I think the badges are a bit unrealistic, and will give those people in that discussion, unrealistic expectations.

If it's a "discussion" in a classroom or auditorium let's say.... then I guess badges are OK. Keep in mind, that if you decide to wear a red badge....everyone there will remember that you wore one. It may have the unintended effect of labeling that person as a.... pushover? Some one you can take out your pent up frustrations on, in the future.

I still think it's better for all educators to TRY to teach their charges that, "the jungle really is full of tigers".

it's not that dire

they'll get kicked in the ass just like everyone else multiple times and will adapt for the most part

most of them are not gonna end up needing to survive Jurassic park or the zombie apocalypse

are they soft? probably but we live in a softer world that is gonna end up more how they are communicating than how it used to be.

these types aren't gonna live street they are gonna stick to circles just like they are in now, it's their reality so this doesn't really prevent anything in their future

It was indoor in a conference room.

A very efficient system. Bars and college parties have utilized a system not dissimilar to this. People who are single and ready to mingle wear a green wristband, those single but hesitant wear yellow, and those in committed relationships wear red.

I think snowflakes , if they want to be snowflakes (which is fine), still need the skill set to defend their... snowflakeness.

Here is a vid of the fictional king of the snowflakes... WITH the skill set to defend his snowflakeness...

/e It can also be verbal... say the "KAREN" method. But a skill set is required, and technically, college is half way to the... public/jungle, aka away from the home or the neighborhood.
