It's a relic of times past, my friend. How can I "know" something I've never experienced myself outside of historical context?

I know there's no water in my glass, that doesn't mean I know what water tastes like or even know what the experience of water is. Knowing it isn't present doesn't mean I know "[w]hat it is," it simply means it lacks a presence. People are quick to assign it a relativistic nature or even try to explain it in terms of an abstract, i.e., "society," I never claimed to know the contents, experience or makeup of water.
