My point is... How do you know how life works?

you know that you cant know how life works, the whole thing sounds like nothing more then a nihilistic point of view of life.

? Not sure what you mean.
Also, to frustrate you further how do you know that you can't know how life works?

Most commonly, nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism, which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. Moral nihilists assert that morality does not inherently exist, and that any established moral values are abstractly contrived. Nihilism can also take epistemological or metaphysical/ontological forms, meaning respectively that, in some aspect, knowledge is not possible, or that reality does not actually exist.

I know what nihilism is, I just didn't understand your statement. Are you implying I'm putting forth a nihilistic view, the OP is, or are you putting forth this view?

the op, in a more general sense.

like in the op's point of view the only truth is the present.

take that away and you have nihilism.

if you want to go step further given time is relative, and always changing, you could even argue that the present dosnt exist, and at that point as is its nihilism.

What is this "mind" you speak of? Consciousness? And if you understand how life works, you need to know something. Otherwise, your understanding is conditional to your assumed starting premises. And when it comes to understanding, how do you know it is of what is and not what is not? You will need to challenge any premises you have in order to "open your mind", and will need to be open to new possibilities, not grounded in any assumed premises.

You guys are lucky, I have troubles to sleep tonight, and I am in a good mood so I will tell you more about what is the truth.
First of all, people said I claimed to know the truth.
No I did not, read again... I claimed to know what is the truth.
This is very different...
As I said I have a rational mind, because I accept the fact I do not know the truth, and I am more than my (physical) mind.
mike14e you said I need to know something to understand how life works : yes , I know I do not know the truth, but I know my mind is rational... so with my rational mind and my 5 other sense, I can experience things, and use logic and reason for things I can not experience such as being unconscious.
2nd : The topic of this thread is not to know if I know the truth... I already told you I do not know the truth, but I seek the truth with all my heart. The question is do YOU know the truth, and do YOU want to know it ?

Believe it or not, but anyone can know the truth... we are all spiritual beings, and we are equal even though we look different, and have a different perception.
It is simple (but still hard to accept for most it seems) : admit you are more than your mind, open your mind untill it is completely free.
I can only show you the door...
"None but ourselves can free our minds" Bob Marley

In the matrix, Morpheus says: "I can only show you the door. You have to walk through it."

By the way did you heard about The allegory of the cave by plato (actually it is from socrates, but written by plato).
The movie the matrix is just a metaphore of this metaphore of our society.
Do you want to escape the matrix ? I do.

Morpheus also says : "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself."

And "The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

About religion, and why I posted this here : the religions we know today are one of the causes of all wars and bad things that happened in the past.
They did not change their ways yet, so we have to do something.
I am not saying there is not truth in the holy books, just they are being interpreted in a very bad way.

What I can tell about Jesus is : the only miracle he did was to live free of his mind.
He was a human being like us (with a physical father, baby don't happen with a women alone).
So if he could live free of his mind we all can do, we can all live like Jesus...

Open yourself to the present moment.
Free your mind (stop thinking), so your spiritual self can truely live the present moment.
I never said it is easy, I said it is possible... and I believe it is actually the purpose of all life.
That is how Jesus lived... at least how it is said in The Bible.
I am not sure the following quotes from Jesus are from The Bible, or the Gospel of Thomas... but what matters is the message.

"In me, all things become one, for everything that is not of me is illusion and will pass away. Only Light abides, for Light is Truth, and Truth has no end. I tell you the truth when I say that I am the Way, the Truth, the Light, and the Life. Walk in me, and you will abide forever, for you will be even as I AM."
"I am in all things; yet I am beyond all things. Not through seeking will you find me, but through Peace. Nevertheless, through seeking you will find yourselves, and then will you know the Eloheim."

I do not know the truth yet, but I know these quotes are true (Eloheim means life)...
So if you understand these quotes with your rational mind (if it is rational) you understand that everything that is not "the way, the truth, the light and the life" is illusion --> you can know what is NOT the truth.

I say it again, this thread is not about "Do Eti_fr (or the autor of the present) knows the truth" ? It is about : do YOU know the truth ? If yes, please share, if not --> do you want to know the truth ? If yes my first advice is read The Present and The Present with religion... if not --> ok I do not judge you, but do not try to stop me from helping people who want to know the truth... Actually you can try to stop me, but it would be a waste of your time because only death can stop me.

so we are not supposed to learn from the past? just ignore it?

I never said that.
I said we should not care about the past : it is gone anyway.
What is it that you can truely experience ? Not the past, not the future... it is the present moment.
But to truely experience it, you must free your mind first.

What I can tell about the past is the way we lived did not worked even though it was necessary for us to live that way to evolved to NOW.
The past is a cycle of war --> peace --> war --> peace.
So if we do not change our minds (learn from our past), we will know war again soon... Actually the USA are already doing war in several countries, I just hope it will stay localised.

you can't experience the present, your senses don't operate instantaneously
