Exactly right.

Siding with American interests over your own country's interests does make you a traitor of sorts. These people are obviously taking bribes of some sort in order to switch sides to favor American imperial interests over the sovereignty of your people.

The occupying forces are recognized as the legitimate power in the region, traitors are those who oppose or defy our backed regime.

If China invaded the United States, the people who sided with China would be called out as traitors. It's pretty simple.

Which is totally legitimate when you're talking about people who support the new democratic regime and were opposed to the old dictatorship.

If we lived in a dictatorship and someone overthrew it, what is there to betray when the dictator is dead?
