It's clear he won't get 5 billion from the BBC but this doesn't mean this isn't a huge disaster for the BBC.

Their credibility has taken a hit that probably hurts more than whatever damages they end up paying to Trump.

I don't think so for modern media. Look at how much they were called out on bias over Brexit and it did little. People are polarized enough now that news can get away with most things and their base will remain.
