You downplayed a history of escalatory violence which led to him beating a woman half to death (and promising to kill her) over a video game. You go further, and point to various disorders (in excess of his autism) which are the root cause of that. But that's also true of sociopathy, and yet sociopathy is never a legal defense for crime.

Whether the agency should be accountable in their own right or not is irrelevant to whether he is accountable. Clearly he is. You're attempting to displace blame. Let's agree that he is of an age to be tried as an adult and his actions have consequences.

He seems to have mental abilities well above that of a toddler, but it's neither here nor there. He was in an assisted situation, and this was the result. There's no guarantee that he will have anything like the support he enjoyed in the future, nor can society take that risk.

We did away with the asylums. If we bring them back he might have a home, for now, it's prison.

Better, still missed one question though. Third times the charm?

Did you even read the article? Really seems like you didn't.

When did he turn "of age"?

Depending on the mental issues he suffers from, maybe he won't be held legally liable for his actions. I have read the story of the serial killer Ed Gein, he was an adult but was determined by the court to be mentally unfit for trial. So they sent him to a mental institution. This case is similar in a few aspects (obviously I am not saying the kid is on par as a serial killer or that he committed murder).

I thought that was a good faith effort to expand upon what i said the first time. I'm waiting for you to explain why this is so different from sociopathy, and when you have time you should dig up the reference to him having the intelligence of a small child. Did you make that up?

It's not for me to explain in detail what the mitigating factors aren't. The facts of the case are that he beat a teacher unconscious and then tried repeatedly to kill her as she was blacked out on the ground. His complaint being dragged away was that he had more important things to do. But I'm sure the previous incidents were nothingburgers and he was sent to a correctional facility by mistake.

As I said, it was better but not really "good faith" IMO and answering in such bad faith initially doesn't win you brownie points

It's different from sociopathy because he doesn't have sociopathy lol. He has severe autism, ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder and reactive explosive disorder.

Do you know what autism is? That is my reference to him having the mentality of a child, I can post a description of it if you consider this a dodge though

It's not for you to explain what the mitigating factors aren't, just to demand he be sent to prison? Do you live near him or something?

Those are not the "facts of the case" that is your framing of 2 details of the case, those are different things. It is very surprising that the severely mentally disabled kid didn't say something more sympathetic as he was being dragged away though, I'll give you that one.... :bonk:

He has 3 misdemeanor battery charges on his juvenile record and a laundry list of mental problems to explain them, what specifically happened in all 3 instances? If you don't know it's a strange thing to pull out as evidence he should be locked up or whatever since misdemeanor battery can include pushing someone.

He has severe mental problems, he will probably have to be assisted for the rest of his life, I doubt he will travel by himself or ever have a drivers license. If he does he clearly shouldn't. He is a ticking time bomb and the agency in control of where he was placed knew that and placed him at the school despite his mother's wishes, why are they not culpable here?

Seems messed up to me, this guy has the mental capabilities of a toddler and would probably just die in the US prison system. Even if he does survive it, the only point in sending him is to separate him from society which if necessary should be done via a mental institution of some sort IMO, not a prison.

toddler's don't willingly beat up innocent teachers to a pulp. the judge and state will probably put him there though, and he'll go on another attack. iuno why you are contradicting yourself. if he's a ticking time bomb / violent offender he belongs in prison not with case workers

and this whole euphemistic language of "mental instutions" is hilarious too. they were originally called insane asylums, for good reason. now they are called "mental health hospitals for the disabled" or "behavioral health hospital for the mentally challenged". which downplays the entire condition itself (degrades the condition for the mental patient and what happened to the victims).

I don't think autism means one has the mental maturity of a small child. It just means the person has low social skills. But he should still know right from wrong, which I think should be the key determinant of whether someone is mentally fit to stand trial.

I think by now everybody agrees that the teen is violent and guilty. The only thing left is whether he should go to a regular jail or a mental institution.

do you believe just because someone has autism, ADHD, or w/e disorders you listed, that they shouldn't have consequences to their actions?

sure, there's a point where mental illness plays a role. but there's also a point where society needs to say hold the hell up, this dude is extremely dangerous

wouldn't you agree putting your teacher in a coma falls under the latter?

Dizzy didn't say we should let the teen talk free. He's saying that he needs to be in a mental institution instead of prison.

putting him a "mental hospital" is not the same as prison, it downplays what he did to the victim (which is a less of a consequence)
