Agreed, i don't really understand why tens of millions living in the Appalachians, rust belt or rural mid-west can't simply just learn to code. Don't they know there's six-figure jobs waiting for them in NYC or San Fran?
I'm closer to Appalachia than you ever were.
I'm more focused on the new generation. This guy(the one singing) has plenty of opportunity, and if he's poor, all the better. Uncle Sam gives him more aid than middle income Americans. My poor friends in university got way more free money than me. Also, you don't need to code... plenty of people in my life got a bullshit degree and make a decent income somewhere.
Older people is a different discussion entirely. But we can at least acknowledge that the sad story told by this song as it concerns young people is kind of bullshit. They have opportunity to get ahead, but they are not taking advantage for some reason. Let's figure out why.
